Martin Jol meets "Arsin Wanger" at "Cashburton Grave" this Saturday lunch-time for the re-match of their head to head battle at "The Library" in April this year. Big Marty (in the blue corner) arrives in good heart, having lost only one of his most last 14 games, and with his team near the top of the Premiership form table for the last 6 games.
"Marty" is feeling strong with most of his squad fit for action, including Ledley King, recovering from a virus and midfielder Jermaine Jenas also bidding for a place after his absence with a calf injury. Whether or not Jenas breaks back into the side is another question of course, but Spurs did well without him in April, when "Wanger" took objection to Spurs playing on when two of his players fell into each other, and Robbie Keane scored the first goal of the game to the delight of the travelling support. Sadly, that man Henry got an 84th minute equaliser.
"Wanger" has had plenty to sulk about recently of course, having lost his last three away games. He was all too willing to go on the offensive with the bantam weight Alan Pardew when West Ham had the audacity to score, but didn't feel the urge to tackle Northern strong man Sam Allardyce after ex-gooner Anelka scored twice to help Bolton send Arsenal home with their tail between their legs. They got all the way to Craven Cottage, and again "Wanger" sloped miserably off the pitch, with the muscular Chris Coleman celebrating a fine victory over a weakened gooner team.
"Wanger" has been criticised over his team selection at Fulham, as he rested Eboue, Clichy, Fabregas and Ljungberg, only to come a cropper as a result of below par performances from Senderos, and Song, amongst others. "Wanger" even had his excuses ready for this week-end's games as he moaned and groaned about the fact that his opponents did not have a mid-week game this week. Silly man! Didn't he realise that Spurs were held free for a potential UEFA Cup game?
The trouble for Spurs will be that the gooners have now lost two consecutive games, and we all know that a wounded animal is the most dangerous. It is debatable whether or not Gallas will be fit for this game, but Clichy, Fabregas and Ljungberg are sure to be joining Messrs Henry & Co in the starting line up. Senderos will have to serve his automatic one match suspension for two yellows at Craven Cottage. No doubt Didier Zokora (who said he preferred Spurs to Arsenal) will be relishing this game, and perhaps he can share one or trade secrets about Eboue and Toure. This really is a game that Arsenal must win, with away games next week against Porto and Chelsea.
There will be no complacency from Spurs though. This time last year, we were one place above the gooners in fourth place. With two home games to come next week, Spurs could be above their nemesis before too long, and realistically challenging for that fourth place again. Whatever happens on Saturday, we are on the up and up!
Arsenal have only won three of their League games in their new home so far, and two of those were against Sheffield United and Watford. Any result really is possible on Saturday, but I am going to be prudent and predict a scoring draw.
I can't wait for the Wenger-Jol re-match on Saturday! COME ON YOU SPURS!
