Spurs started the first half with Cudicini in goal at the open south end with Dawson and Dervite at the back. Chimbonda played at right back and Rose started at left back. Boateng started alongside Huddlestone in the centre of midfield with Bentley on the right and Modric on the left. Captain Keane and Bent were paired up front.

Both sides took a little time to settle and find their passes, with Chimbonda giving the ball away to Pittman who drove into the area but Dawson blocked his shot for a corner. Boateng fired wide at the other end before Rose crossed for Bentley to head wide at the far post. Bent then tried to play in Keane but he was tackled before he could get his shot in. Dervite played a long ball over the home defence for Bent which former young Spur Jalal came out to clear. The ball hit a defender and fell nicely for Bentley on the right. He easily beat the first defender but was caught high by Cummings and had to go off for treatment. Huddlestone hit the free kick low and just wide of the far post.

Livermore came on for Bentley and went to left back with Rose moving up to the left wing position with Modric switching to the right side. Pitman took a free kick on the left which went into the side netting before Rose got to the line and crossed to far ahead of a white shirt. Livermore played a ball in from the wing which was intercepted but the ball ran to Boateng who played it nicely into the path of Keane to guide it past Jalal into the net.

Bent tried to take advantage of a mix-up in the Cherries' defence but his effort went for a corner. Huddlestone caught Pitman in a tackle that resulted in the striker being replaced by Smith. Rose again got the better of Garry on the left but could not get a cross in. The next time he got the ball Garry did not let him get away which meant Danny needed treatment. Goulding was played in on the right but Cudicini blocked his shot and the follow-up. The home side had one more effort which was turned out for a corner and Rose fired over from distance before the end of the half.

During the interval the second half team warmed up with Rose joining them but when they lined up for the start Cudicini came out as did Huddlestone. I think Tom was sent out as Boateng had done most of the work in the first half. They lined up with Livermore joining Corluka in the middle of the defence with Hutton on the right and Assou-Ekotto on the left. Palacios and Huddlestone were in the centre of midfield with Lennon on the right and O'Hara on the left. Defoe and Pavlyuchenko were together up front.

Spurs kicked off and quickly pushed forward with Lennon playing O'Hara in at the near post but the keeper saved his effort. The pressure paid with a goal after ten minutes. Bournemouth failed to clear a corner and Livermore collected and held off a couple of challenges before playing in Defoe on the right. His fierce drive nestled into the far corner of the net in a flash.

Huddlestone drove wide from distance before trying to find Defoe with a ball over the top. Pavlyuchenko played in Defoe in with a delicate touch which was smashed goalward only for the keeper to save. Pav struck the rebound over from the edge of the area. Bradbury was replaced by ex-Spur Thelwell.

Palacios carried the ball forward and wanted to play a one-two with Defoe who had other ideas. Defoe hit a snap shot which the keeper saved only to see the ball drop at the feet of Palacios who had kept going to finish. With the third goal Howe decided that the game was gone and he made regular changes to give the rest of his players a run out. Defoe volleyed another effort that hit the crossbar as Spurs began to play the ball about more with both full backs pushing forward. They nearly got caught out when Cudicini had to come out quickly to a ball over the top.

O'Hara had an effort that was turned away for a corner and Huddlestone saw his shot saved also at the expense of a corner. Hutton set up Defoe for a chance that went over and Defoe squared for Pavlyuchenko who also hit the ball over. In added time the home side came close to a consolation goal when the ball was crossed from the right but turned wide of the near post.

This was a good work out for the squad without any outstanding performances. Rose and Boateng did well in the first half and Defoe looked sharp in the second. Huddlestone looked to be more involved in the second half as Palacios sat back more. Bournemouth were not a real test and Spurs first team squad moves on to Peterborough next week. I will be going to the Spurs XI game at Aldershot to see what we have there.
