This won't be "Eez-eh" for Spurs either!
Leicester's new manager Claudio Ranieri revealed after their first game win over Sunderland that he likes to fire up the team before the game by playing Kasabian's music in the dressing room. Well, that certainly seems to be working for Leicester, who are carrying on where they left off at the end of last season. Their form for more than their last 6 games has been excellent. They've won five of their last six, and 9 of their last 11 games in all. This certainly will not be an "Eez-eh" fixture for a Spurs side still seeking their first win of the season. (For the uninitiated - "Eez-eh" is a Kasabian favourite)
Six points from two games is a great boon to any team, but to a team like Leicester, simply seeking security in the Premier League, their start is a real bonus. Sunderland simply rolled over for them, but they took West Ham by surprise last week with goals by new signing Shinji Okazaki, and Riyad Mahrez, who also scored two of "The Foxes"' goals against Sunderland.
Mahrez was a thorn in our side in our last visit to The King Power Stadium, when we won 2-1, thanks to the Eriksen/Kane scoring combination. Harry Kane also got his first Premier League hat-trick in our 4-3 home win against Leicester in March. Leicester gave a good account of themselves in all games against us last season, knocking us out off the FA Cup in the Fourth Round at The Lane for good measure.
In addition to Okazaki, an experienced Japanese International attacking players, who was signed from FSV mainz, Ranieri has this week added Swiss International Gokhan Inler from Napoli. Inler is 31, but he too is an experienced International, playing in midfield, who still plays a full part for Switzerland.
Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has been in a spot of trouble recently and was fined by the club, after alleged racist abuse of a Japanese man in July. It won't stop him being selected, and he is already on the score-sheet this season.
Spurs really need to get their season going, but once again there has been frustration this week, as Daniel Levy apparently refuses to stump up the asking price for a transfer target (Berahino), whilst the money-men at Man City and Chelsea sign top players such as Otamendi and Pedro at a stroke. Clinton N'Jie has been waiting for confirmation of his work permit this week, and is now in training, but I suspect he'll be on the bench at best, and that Spurs will not field a significantly differently team from that which drew at home to Stoke. Perhaps Danny Rose will come in at left back for Ben Davies.
I'm waiting for Spurs to excite me again; to play the game at pace; with driving intensity; to score freely. We're all waiting for Harry Kane to get off the mark this season. I think he might score tomorrow, but I aso think we might have to wait for that elusive win. I've predicted a 1-1 draw, but defeat would not surprise me in the least.
Tomorrow's match referee will be Martin Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson is not our favourite (who is?), and we last saw him in charge of us at Burnley in April. We drew that game 0-0. The only other time we saw this referee last season was for our home win over Arsenal.
COME ON YOU SPURS! Fire me up!
