Spurs lined up with Austin in goal behind Maghoma and Owens with Muscatt at right back and Brown on the left. Marsh anchored the midfield with Roles alongside him with Pritchard ahead of them flanked by Tracey on the right and Shashoua on the left in support of Sterling up front.
Spurs defended the West end in the first half with overcast skies after it had just stopped raining. The match started in an open passing style which saw Tracey booked for a foul on Ali in only the second minute. Chelsea were quicker to the ball than Spurs and they produced some good approach work. Spurs were dealing with that fairly well until Chelsea got down the right and put in a cross which the referee decided had been handled by Owens. Not only did he give the "Blues" a penalty but he also booked the Spurs player. Mount stepped up to hit the penalty to the left, beating the dive by Austin to take the lead.
Spurs were not getting much from the Chelsea defence but when Spurs won a corner the "Blues" defence failed to clear and Pritchard had a chance which he hit over from about ten yards. Roles had a free kick on the left that was saved by Collins before St. Clair hit the top of the crossbar. Back up the other end Roles played in Sterling for an effort that was saved. Ali had a chance that was wide before Chelsea made it two before the break. Owens gave the ball away and they quickly moved it inside for McCormick to find the left corner of the net.
Both sides made changes for the second half. Spurs replaced Owens with Walkes and Tracey with Oteh. Sterling moved to the right. Oteh got round the back on the right and pulled the ball back for Pritchard to hit the near post. Spurs made more changes with Stylianides replacing Roles in midfield and Bennetts taking over from Sterling on the right. Collins saved a Shashoua free kick before the Spurs wideman was booked for a foul on Chalobah. Bennetts ran onto a nod down by Oteh but Collins saved at his near post. Pritchard was booked for a foul on Mount just before the end to make Spurs look a dirty team.
Spurs finished sixth while being the only team to take points off the tournament winners Atletico Mineiro. They were on course to winning the fair play award until they conceded two penalties in their last two games.
