Spurs U-21 squad Brittany July 2018

On the second day each club had only one match to finish the group. The other group played twice to finish their games. Spurs' game was against one of the two local clubs Stade Rennais FC.

Unused Subs:– Assignon, Gaultier, Huard, Doumbouya, Camavinga, Imoro, Veinante

Scorers:– Nkada 27 (pen), Rutter 38

Booked – Nkada 46 (Dissent)

Tottenham (White/Blue)(4-1-4-1):– Freeman; Hinds, Statham, Dinzeyi, Ogilvie(C); Duncan; Edwards, Maghoma, A.Shashoua(Bowden 26), Tracey; Parrott(S. Shashoua 39)

Unused Subs:– De Bie; Roles, Harrison

Scorer:– Ogilvie 4

Booked:– Duncan 31(Foul)

Sent off:– Dinzeyi 27(Last Man)

Spurs needed to win to make sure of topping the group, but two points from a draw and winning on penalties would have been sufficient.

Spurs made the best start by taking an early lead when Tracey could not get his shot off and the keeper cleared from the attentions of Armando Shashoua. The ball fell nicely for skipper Ogilvie to lift it over the keeper into the net from the edge of the area.

Rennais closed down quickly and attacked at pace which saw Doumbouya fire over and Freeman save from Mehadji, but Spurs also countered at pace with Maghoma sending Edwards away to draw a save. Spurs had a good chance when Parrott was given the ball outside the area but his pass to Edwards in a two on one pushed him too wide.

Spurs were looking comfortable even when Rennais had a rare chance when Mehadji heaeded wide from Nkada. Spurs were confident enough to make a change for the second half replacing Shashoua with Bowden who anchored the midfield allowing Duncan to move forward.

Everything changed when Nkada harried Dinzeyi into losing the ball and was tripped as he got into the area. The ref produced the red card as well as giving the penalty. Nkada scored from the spot and with a man advantage the French side went for the win.

Duncan was booked for a minor foul on Trouillet as Mehadji fired wide and Bernaur shot over. Spurs looked to be holding with Maghoma at left back and Ogilvie in the centre but when Nkada got past Maghoma, Freeman saved his effort but Rutter put in the loose ball.

Spurs sent on Samuel Shashoua in place of Parrott, pushing Tracey up front, but Spurs were not really getting over the halfway line. Nkada got himself booked for kicking he ball away and Rennais finished with a header wide by Doucoure from a cross by Kerouedan to take them above Spurs in the group.

PSG won their last group match to also jump above Spurs who finished third and will play the other local side EA Guingamp for fifth place tomorrow, Guingamp could not beat 10 man Besiktas and had to rely on penalties.
