July 29th – Day 3

Having slipped up yesterday Spurs had to settle for the 5/6th place match on the last day of the tournament. They took on EA Guigamp one of the local teams who had plenty of support.

Guingamp (All White):– Youfeigane; Ako, Kou Laclau, Heumel, Guedard(Gaudin 37), Carnot, Hequet, Hachem(Mathias 38), Lemehaute, Phaeton, Radenac(Sahal 31)

Unused Subs:– Bilingui, Fombertasse, Barbet, Baret, Kerjean, Ozduru

Scorer:– Hachem 7

Booked:– Laclau 18(Foul)

Tottenham (All Blue) (4-1-4-1):– De Bie; Duncan, Statham, Ogilvie(C), Hinds; Bowden(Maghoma 50); Markanday(Tracey 53), Roles(Edwards 54), A. Shashoua, S. Shashoua; Parrott.

Unused Subs:– Freeman

Booked:– Parrott 44 (Dissent), Ogilvie 46(Trip), Bowden 50(Late)

Referee:– Dayimc Janet
Assistants:– Killian Ardy & Sylvia Phizion
Fourth Official:– Tom Robert

Spurs went into the game without three players leaving them short at the back. Duncan dropped to right back and Hinds moved to left back as Ogilvie moved inside to pair up with Statham. Armando Shashoua started alongside his brother Samuel and Parrott led the line.

Spurs were up against it when Phaeton got through to force a save from De Bie with Hachem following up to score. Parrott drew a save with Armando winning a corner from the rebound. Roles fired over before Phaeton fired wide. Duncan turned the ball wide at the far post from a corner.

Laclau was booked for pulling down Parrott with Ogilvie firing the free kick wide. Guedard headed wide before Markanday drove wide when played in by Bowden. The half ended with De Bie saving from Hequet at a corner.

The French coach made three changes for the second half with Sahal firing wide soon after coming on. After another change by Guingamp, Parrott was booked after saying too much to the ref as things were going against him. The ref had over-ruled his female assistant twice, firstly for a throw-in that he gave to Guingamp and after allowing play to continue the assistant flagged for offside so the ref gave a free kick for the initial foul by Spurs. Ogilvie followed Parrott into the ref's book for a crunching tackle on Ako.

Spurs began to lose ground and Phaeton drew a save from De Bie before Bowden was booked for a late tackle on Gaudin. Spurs made changes to regain momentum. Maghoma replaced Bowden and soon afterwards Tracey replaced Markanday. Edwards came on for Roles after a hold up as he had the wrong numbered shirt on, probably because he was not expecting to play. It was too late as Guingamp had the momentum and Sahal had two efforts saved before the end.

This was the second tournament in which Spurs had started well before falling away. The tournament was won by Paris St. Germain who beat AS Monaco 1-0 in the final game.

I will be returning home tomorrow (Monday) after a fairly unhappy stay, both from the football but also on a personal level. Most of the town of Saint Brieuc closes early and there were no buses on a Sunday. I did meet one person who I could talk to who turned out to be a Spurs fan and I promised to help her to see a match if she comes over to London.
