Three wins on the spin would be great!
Just imagine if, as was expected, we had suffered our usual defeat last week at Stamford Bridge. We would have been in the bottom three below Palace, who have just lost their last league two games - 5-0 at Brighton and 2-0 at home to Newcastle. Furthermore, we would have lost seven consecutive London derby league games for the first time in our history.
Instead, we gained a fantastic morale-boosting 2-0 win against Chelsea, and start this game above Palace in 14th place. A third consecutive win would be a first for us since February 2025 and would surely lift us to the top half for the first time since last December. First, we must achieve that win. The game kicks off at 5.30pm tomorrow (Saturday) night, and is live on SKY.
A cautionary note reminds us that Palace were one of the six teams that beat us in that recent miserable run of derby defeats. That was a horrible 3-1 home defeat during Igor Tudor's short stay. Ismaila Sarr(2) and Jorgen Strand Larsen scored the "Eagles"' goals, although both were absent last week. Palace won on consecutive league visits to Tottenham Hotspur for the first time.
Palace were one of three English teams to reach a European final last season. Aston Villa won the Europa League. Oliver Glasner's Palace side won the Europa Conference League Final (their first European final). Arsenal lost in a penalty shoot-out to PSG in the Champions League final.
Thus Palace gained entry to the competition they should have played in the 25-26 season, but for UEFA rules over involvement in two clubs in the same competition.
Oliver Glasner had announced in January that he would be leaving at the end of the season. In his three seasons at Selhurst Park, he led Palace to the 2025 FA Cup and Community Shield, before signing off with this memorable European trophy success.
Jean-Philippe Mateta (whom but for injury might have left the club in January) scored Palace's winning European goal. Adam Wharton, who had missed out on an England World Cup squad place was the Palace man of the match.
Palace had been without a major trophy until that FA Cup win against Manchester City, and now had two major trophies in successive years. That's something Spurs haven't done for over 44 years since they won the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982.
Statistically, Palace remain one of our favourite Premier League opponents. Indeed, if you look at our record in all league games, you will see that historically, we have been the dominant team.
Palace announced former Lens coach Pierre Sage as their replacement for Glasner. Previously coaching Lyon and Lens in France, Msr Sage is feeling the pressure after losing three out of four games, including a 3-2 Europa League defeat to his former team Lyon. However, Palace did beat Fulham on Wednesday night to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in December, when they will host Sunderland.
In August Everton and Crystal Palace completed a swap deal involving Dwight McNeil and ex-Spur Brennan Johnson. The Toffees confirmed Johnson has signed a four-year contract while McNeil moves in the opposite direction and has also agreed a deal until 2030.
Other departures included Colombian wing-back Daniel Munoz following Glasner to Forest, and centre-back Maxence Lacroix joining Chelsea for big money. Lacroix played against us last week.
Arrivals included former England international Ben Chilwell on a free from Strasbourg, Takehiro Tomiyasu (once of Arsenal) from Ajax, and Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo. Dutch international midfielder Quinten Timber was signed from Marseille. Timber only joined Marseille in late January. Roberto de Zerbi left the French club by mutual agreement two weeks later.
Sarr is a doubt for Palace since suffering a groin strain last week. Mateta hasn't featured much so far this season, and missed the Fulham game, as did Strand Larsen, although it is said he will train ahead of our game. Former Arsenal man Eddie Nketiah scored Palace's winner at Craven Cottage, and could be in the reckoning for our game. 22-year-old England international Adam Wharton came off the bench against Fulham and has played 90 minutes in seven of Palace's eight league games.
Rodrigo Bentancur has to sit out one last game of his suspension. The latest news is that both James Maddison and Destiny Udogie are available. Tosin, Bergvall, Savio and Mudryk remain absent through injury along with long term patients, Odobert and Xavi.
I'm feeling confident about a win for the first time in ages. I'll say 3-1 to Spurs!
This will be Michael Oliver's 59th game in charge of Spurs since January 2011. It's his second game with us this season. The previous match was one of those six consecutive London derby defeats - the 3-0 defeat at Brentford. Mr. Oliver is kept busy at home and abroad and recently refereed PSG's 4-2 home win over Barcelona.
This time 10 years ago we drew 1-1 at home to Premier League champions Leicester (now in League One!) before losing (at Wembley) in front of a record 85,512 crowd 1-0 to Bayer Leverkusen. We dropped to third place in the Champions League group after 4 of 6 group games.
