Jermain Defoe, man of the match, man of the moment.
With another brace of Premier League goals to secure our third consecutive league win, Jermain Defoe won your vote for man of the match for the second time in three games, and for the fifth time this season. Jermain's goals take his league tally to 9, and 12 in all competitions this season. He has now scored a grand total of 130 goals for Spurs in all competitions.
Jermain is only one goal behind the top Premier League goal scorers, who are Demba Ba, Luis Suarez, Michu and Robin van Persie. This time last year, Adebayor was our top scorer, but Jermain had still scored 6 goals from limited minutes on the field of play. He has turned the tables on Adebayor, and with his confidence as high as ever, Jermain, is on target to become our fifth highest ever goalscorer by the end of the season. he could go even higher with another season of top scoring.
Jermain would be the first to give credit to his team-mates, and it was pleasing to see both Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurdsson score 7 out of 10 in Saturday's game
. Dempsey had a hand in both Defoe's goals, and Sigurdsson made that great run to provide the final assist for the first Defoe goal.
One question that was asked was when did Spurs last gain 9 points from three games within a week. It's not that long ago, according to my records. Between Boxing Day 2010 and New Year's Day 2011, we beat Aston Villa (A), Newcastle (H), and Fulham (H). If you are looking for a week outside the Christmas season, then you have to go back to the start of the 2009-10 season, when we beat Liverpool (H), Hull (A), and West Ham (A). There are quite a few other occasions when we have won three games in such a short period, but they included a Cup match.
I didn't feel over-confident about the result before the game, but on the day, the omens started coming thick and fast for me personally. Firstly I spent the pre-match with a friend I had not seen since the Reading away win. Secondly, someone said "Hello", who said they hadn't seen me since Old Trafford, and thirdly, referee Chris Foy was the referee at Old Trafford.
Already, I can tell you that Sunday's referee will be Kevin Friend, who was in charge of our game at Carlisle - also an away win of course. So, if anyone wants to bump into me at Goodison to tell me they haven't seen me since then, that would be fine!
