The low-down on this season's "London League"
Courtesy of Paul Yarden's excellent "My Football Facts" site, here is the latest situation in this season's "London League". Most of the 6 teams involved have played 6 games now, and none have won more than 2 games, so Spurs' record is not so bad after Thursday night's draw against West Ham. It's all very close and we are only one point behind Arsenal who have drawn one more game and lost one less than any other team.
More importantly we are two points above our near rivals in the league that matters - The Premier League. Of course we are all disappointed that the gap is not four points as it would have been had we beaten "The Hammers" as expected, but as I mentioned in my match preview, two of David Moyes' best results have been against Chelsea (won 1-0) and Arsenal (drew 0-0).
Thursday's result does leave us very much in the top four race, and also leaves West Ham very much in the battle against the drop. This weekend's FA Cup offers a welcome respite from Premier League pressures.
Son Heung-min won our man of the match vote, primarily for his spectacular goal no doubt. In our last 8 games, Son has won 4 such votes, one more than Harry Kane, who of course hogs the goal scoring headlines.
Spurs Odyssey voters have lost patience and confidence in Sissoko, and as a result Mauricio Pochettino's team selection also took a knock. Sissoko clearly has the confidence and backing of his manager and has been involved in 28 of our 30 games, Only Eric Dier has had a playing role in more games (29).
"Super" Jan Vertonghen has been Mister Consistency all season and is the player closest behind Harry Kane in the player of the season vote.
