Let's do better than the Gooners!

If Swansea fans thought sometimes last season that Brendan Rodgers had taken them to dreamland, they must be in football heaven this season, as new manager Michael Laudrup looks like being an upgrade on the previous incumbent, who, in fairness, was the man that took "The Swans" back to top flight football for the first time in 28 years.

Last season, Swansea achieved four away wins in the Premier League (all of which took place in this calendar year), but already Laudrup has led his new charges to three away wins in just seven games, the last of which was against Arsenal. After a slip-up at home last Saturday, Laudrup will be looking for another win in tomorrow's early televised game at White Hart Lane.

Swansea cheered their fans during the week with a League Cup win over Middlesbrough, and having made the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in their history, they will have their eyes on a first major trophy in their history. Swansea do have plenty of European experience though, as they are eleven-time winners of the Welsh Cup, which gave them entry to the prestigious European Cup-Winners' Cup as late as the 1991-92 season. The fates have drawn Swansea at home to their recent league victims Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup next month.

Swansea's other league victims away from home have been QPR on Day One of the season, and Newcastle. They also beat Liverpool away in the League Cup, so in no way will they be lacking confidence against us tomorrow. Spurs will have to be at their best to match last season's 3-1 home win, when Van der Vaart scored, and Adebayor added a brace. Swansea's scorer was Gylfi Sigurdsson, who will be hoping for a chance to play against his former team.

Sigurdsson was signed on loan in January from the Bundesliga's TSG Hoffenheim, and starred in 17 league games, when he scored 7 goals. Sigurdsson had a cracking spell in March, when he scored two goals both at Wigan and Fulham, where Swansea won. Yet he has still to set the stage alight for Tottenham this season, and is not likely to start tomorrow.

Laudrup has plenty of experience in Spanish football, having played there for 7 seasons at the highest level, and managed for three seasons. In the 2007-8 season, Laudrup was the manager of Getafe, and he was in charge when they inflicted defeat upon Spurs at White Hart Lane against the surreal back-drop of Martin Jol's sacking (Spurs 1 Getafe 2 - 25.10.07).

Laudrup also managed Spartak Moscow, when they played at White Hart Lane in December, 2008. For the two seasons before being appointed at Swansea, Laudrup managed Mallorca, who have suffered a downturn in form since his departure.

That Spanish experience and knowledge no doubt led to Laudrup's acquisition of Michu and Pablo Hernandez from Spanish clubs in the summer, along with others to fill the gaps left by departures such as Joe Allen to Liverpool and Scott Sinclair to Man City. Sinclair played 35 Premier League games for Swansea last season, but has only appeared in four such games this season for Man City, where his main interest would appear to be former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, who recently suffered ITV's Jungle ridicule.

Michu's last 12 months have not been as spectacular as that of Lionel Messi, but for Rayo Vallecano and Swansea, he has scored a total of 24 goals. 13 of those have been for "The Swans", 12 of them in thee Premier League. Michu scored both of the goals at Arsenal, and also got two last week against Norwich.

Hernandez has chipped in with two goals and two assists, while another signing (on loan from Villareal) Jonathan de Guzman has scored two and offered four assists. Laudrup's influence is plain to see. Swansea are still a passing side, but a win over Spurs would take them above us. Whatever the result, Laudrup will be chasing Europe on more than one front. Former Spur Wayne Routledge is also enjoying something of a renaissance under Laudrup.

So, it is clear that Spurs, playing their first home league game of December, have a big task on their hands. The team news suggested that Scott Parker may make a return, but this would surely be from a starting position on the bench. Michael Dawson also has a chance of making the squad, but Gareth Bale will probably have to sit this one out. The starting line-up is unlikely to be different from last week. Benoit Assou-Ekotto was not specifically mentioned, but he must also be nearing match fitness, and his return, when it comes, will be very welcome.

I am hoping for home advantage, and the improving fitness of Mousa Dembele, to make the telling difference, and I'll go for a 2-1 win for Spurs! Oh, and let's do better than the Gooners did two weeks ago, and let's stay above them!
